Instigation

As an avid mystery reader and aspiring mystery writer, the Victorian era is endlessly fascinating to me.  As a history major, I tried to study the Victorian era exclusively, although my professors nudged me insistently into being more well-rounded.  Despite their prodding, no time period has ever interested and inspired me more.

Luckily, I am not alone in my fascination with the Victorian era and its darker elements.  Some of the most popular and prolific mystery writers of our day set their novels during the epoch named after a hardy queen.  Like most good writers, while creating fiction, they draw on history to bring the vibrancy of realism to their stories.

This site is meant as an homage to the Victorian era and particularly those strange cases of murder and madness that continue to fascinate us (surely, I cannot be alone) to this day.  I will recount some history, explore Victorian culture, and bring attention to those writers who explore the Victorians in their writing.
